Lindsell is a rural parish surrounded by untouched, rolling countryside with a variety of both modern and period properties. It is situated south-east of the historic market town of Thaxted with a Guild Hall, Church and many buildings of historical interest. Here you will find a good range of shops and a weekly market. Renowned Felsted School is also only 8.7 miles away.
The area is well served for commuters with access to the M11 on the outskirts of Bishop's Stortford. Elsenham mainline railway station (7 miles to the west) and both Audley End and Bishop's Stortford stations (11 miles) provide a commuter service on the Cambridge to London Liverpool Street line.
New Barn hall is nestled amongst attractive countryside and mature trees, between Great Dunmow and the medieval historic market town of Thaxted. The house is predominantly built in brick in the Tudor style and in 2008 it was significantly extended, remodelled and modernised to create a spacious family home. There are a considerable number of notable features including a grand entrance hall, two reception rooms, hall/sitting room, study and billiard room. The bespoke kitchen/breakfast room is by W A Croker and Sons of Chelmsford and has an area for informal dining. There is also a family room, billiard room, two utility rooms, larder, store, dog room and cellar.
On the first floor there are five bedrooms, two currently used as a self-contained flat. The second floor is divided into two large suites, ideal for guests of teenagers; separated by a reception room. The house is approached along a quiet country lane, through double gates with an entry phone system to a driveway flanked by low brick retaining walls with lighting. The driveway leads to the front of the house where there is extensive parking and to a double garage with an office or flat above.
The established grounds include a substantial terrace running along the back and side of the house, where there is a veranda. The remaining grounds are easily maintained, a parkland setting with many mature trees and with a heated swimming pool, pool house with a kitchen and shower room, games room, tennis court, an office with shower room and a detached cottage at the foot of the driveway.
From junction 8 of the M11 proceed east on the A120 and take the exit for Great Dunmow. On the outskirts of the town at a roundabout (Tesco) turn left and follow this new road until you reach a roundabout with the B184 and here turn left heading north towards Thaxted. Follow the road through Great Easton, pass the turn to Sibleys Green and take the next right turn to Richmonds Green and Lindsell. Follow the road for about 2 miles and take the next left turn, pass a small village garage (repairs) and the driveway to the house will be found 400m beyond on the left.
